A little different tutorial-"glitterizing" wine bottles and other glass things

I have just recently gotten a vanity.  I used to use just a makeup train case and bags and carry all my makeup to the bedroom or the living room, wherever I felt like doing my makeup.  Well, I got tired of it so I re-purposed an old desk to make it a vanity.  I needed some decorations and figured I would just put glitter all over some empty wine bottles and mason jars that I had lying around.  I did a few for living room decorations as well.
First off, you'll need a bunch of supplies.  You will need

  • Wine bottles, mason jars or whatever glass thing you are decorating
  • Modge Podge Paste
  • Glitter in whatever color you want
  • Modge Podge Acrylic Sealer
  • Sponge brushes
  • Newspaper
  • Paper plates
I suggest doing this outside because the smell can get really pungent.  First, you will need to place the newspaper over the surface that you are working on just in case the paper plate doesn't catch everything.  Next, take whatever you are decorating and brush the Modge Podge paste in a light layer on the outside of whatever you are working on, if you are doing something big(like the wine bottles I did), it is easier to do this in sections like I did.

Once you get the entire bottle(or whatever you're using), or the section that you are doing, pour the glitter until the entire area is covered, if you have to do this in multiple layers, then that is fine! Repeat this until the entire glass object is covered in glitter.

Let it dry for about an hour or so and then take the sealer and spray it over the entire surface of your glass object.  Wait 20 minutes, then do another layer, and repeat one more time.  You don't want that glitter getting all over the place!

Let it dry for 12-24 hours and then you are done!  You've got some nice glitter items!  You can do so much with this, I attempted an ombre effect(didn't really turn out but it looks cool!), you can mix paint and glitter and do cut out kind of things with tape paper or laminate, multiple colors...pretty much if you can think of it than it can probably be done.

I hope you enjoyed this non-makeup tutorial.  I decided to throw this in since I am going to be using the mason jars as makeup brush holders(once I find some ribbon I like to dress it up a bit) and one of the wine bottles as decoration on my vanity. Decorated wine bottles are great for nice looking decorations.  You can add in flowers, or just keep them bare.  The options are just endless.

Let's Get Naked Pt 2-Original Naked palette and Corresponding Eye Liner Review

The original Naked palette came out in 2010 and it was actually the last Naked palette that I bought, and my least used palette in fact.  This Naked palette contains 12 warm toned eye shadows, a flat eye shadow blush and a sample sized Original Primer Potion. There are 10 full blown shimmer shades, and only 2 matte shades. The packaging is a dark brown velvet type material with Naked and Urban Decay embossed in gold on the front.  It has a magnetic close, and on the inside is a cubby for the brush, and a decent sized mirror, again with Naked embossed in gold.

Virgin is a pale shimmery beige.  It is a perfect frosted shimmer for a highlighter, then again, I prefer a shimmery highlighter. Sin is a pinkish champagne frost that is good for inner corner highlights on darker looks, and lid colors for lighter looks.  Naked is a medium brownish beige matte color.  This is a great crease color.

Sidecar is a shimmery bronzey-brown with a slightly red undertone. I love this as a lid color. Buck is a dark brown-beige color, that is actually a darker version of Naked.  This is a great crease color. Half Baked is a copper-bronze with a gold frosted metallic finish.

Smog is a medium dark bronze with a golden sheen. Darkhorse is a deep chocolate brown with bronze flecks. Toasted is a pinky medium brown with a shimmer finish.  All of these are great crease colors or defining colors.

Hustle is a plummy deep chocolate brown with a light shimmery finish.  Creep is an onyx color with light gold glitter.  Gunmetal is a blue-grey metallic that is almost duochrome. These are really great defining shadows and great colors for smokey looks.

These eye shadows are just like any other Urban Decay eye shadows, very buttery, soft and super blendable. They are gorgeous colors, but just a little too dark for my liking so it doesn't get used that often for me.  You can find this for $52 at Urban DecaySephoraUlta and any other places UD is sold.
Recently, when UD launched their Naked3 palette, they also launched 4 double-ended 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencils that correspond with the Naked palettes.  Of course I would, of course, add in the corresponding eye pencil to this review.  This eye pencil has Zero, and Whiskey on it.  Zero is a matte black that is their second blackest black in the 24/7 line.  Whiskey is a medium-dark matte brown.  Just like the other 24/7 eye pencils, they glide on smooth and creamy and last quite awhile.  I've never really tested out how long that these will last, but I was just doing my dishes with the swatches on my hand and they survived the dishwater.  I also tried to take it out with baby wipes and it didn't want to come on then either.  I finally got a makeup remover wipe and literally had to scrub to get the swatches off.  These have quite the staying power.  These can be found for $16 at Urban DecaySephoraUlta and any other retailers that sell Urban Decay.

January 2014 Ipsy Bag!!!

Yesterday, I went to check the mail, and this pretty hot pink bag was in my mailbox.  Can you guess what it was?  My IPSY bag!!!  I am so excited for this time of the month because it means I get my bag!  This is seriously what I look forward to every month.
Don't know what IPSY is?  Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription that sends you 4-5 beauty items(makeup, skincare, and haircare) in deluxe samples, or even full sized, in a cute little makeup bag for only $10 a month!  Yes, you read that right-$10 a month!  Some brands are Be A Bombshell, Urban Decay, Benefit, Yaby, Pixie, Pop, Mirabella, Coastal Scents, Balanced Guru, and that's just to name a few!
This month was called 19 Reasons.  It was based around mainly skin care and hair care with a little bit of makeup thrown in.  I received the Yaby foundation in Buff, the Balanced Guru Balm Me Up body balm pretty decent sized sample, a Benefit Porefessional sample, (Malin+Goetz) Mojito Lip Balm, and Absolute! makeup remover towlettes in Pomegranate.
The Yaby foundation in Buff is a pretty decent match for me.  It is slightly darker than my pale as a ghost complexion(too bad they don't have that as an option on the IpsyMatch quiz!) but in a month or so, when I'm able to get outside with my girls more often, I hope that it will be a better match.  This is a very lightweight foundation, I am wearing it now and can hardly tell that it is on.  It is also a light to medium coverage, so it is perfect for those with an even complexion, or those wanting something lighter for the warmer days that want more of a foundation look than a BB cream or a CC cream. At Camera Ready Cosmetics, the price for a full sized tube(8mL and I received a 15.4g tube) is $13.99 and there are 12 different shades.
The Balanced Guru Balm Me Up Organic Sweet Cocoa & Tangy Body Balm.  This is to help with dry skin and some of the ingredients are cocoa and shea butter, babassu oil, lime, sweet orange, and mandarian.  There are a few more fruits and oils in here, but this is what it mainly consists of.  It is a very thick balm, that when applied, gets pretty greasy, but it does what it says.  I put this on my very dry hands, elbows and feet before I went to bed, and when I woke up, they weren't baby soft, but they were pretty darn close.  I received a 1oz sample, that looks like it might actually last for awhile.  The full size(4oz) retails for $45 at Balm Me Up
Another sample that we received was a makeup remover wipe. Absolute! sent out a couple 10 packs of makeup remover wipes in a few different scents.  I received it in Pomegranate. I've used these in Cucumber before and absolutely loved them.  I think they work so great for the low price point.  The 10 pack we received retails on Nicka for $2.49.  They do have two other sizes, one being a 33 count ($4.99) and a 100 count($7.99).
The only full sized item that I received this month was the (MALIN+GOETZ) Mojito Lip Balm.  This is a very thick clear lip product that comes off to be more of a gloss than a balm. I put this on this morning before doing my makeup and still needed to wipe some off before I could put on my lipstick. It is very moisturizing, but I am obsessed with my EOS Lip Balms and that's hard to top.  You can find the Mojito Lip Balm at (MALIN+GOETZ) priced at $12.00
Last, but definitely not least, I received a sample size of Benefit's Porefessional.  The Porefessional is a pore and wrinkle blurer(is that even a WORD?!) I have never tried it before and I am still trying it out so I can't give a better idea of the product.  The sample sent out was a 3mL size, the full size being 22mL and priced at a whopping $30.
The total of the bag came out to around $38, not one of higher end, pricey bags, but I think it was still worth the $10 this month for sure.

Urban Decay Oz The Great and Powerful Glinda palette Review

So, I'm going through all of my makeup, trying to find out what I want to review for you guys, and I see this, and even though you can only find it on Urban Decay's website now, it is still a great palette.  This was the first non-Naked palette from Urban Decay and I have to say I was pretty pleased with the entirety of this palette.

Included in this palette are 8 eyeshadows, four are full sized eye shadows and the other two are a duo pan eyeshadow, you also get a travel sized 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Rockstar, and an exclusive High Saturated Lip Gloss in Glinda.

Eyeshadows-
  • Tornado-a rich deep purple with pink undertones with a frosted shimmer finish.
  • Aura-this is one of the duo pans, the first shade is an iridescent white with blue undertones.  The second is an iridescent white with pink undertones
  • Magic-a pinkish purple shade with gold shimmer and a satin finish.
  • Illusion- a peachy shade with gold undertones and a frosted metallic shimmer
  • Oz-another duo pan with a silver with metallic silver glitter, the other being a gold with metallic gold glitter
  • South-a cool dark taupe with a frosted metallic finish
Eye Liner and Lip Pencil
  • 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Rockstar- deep eggplant color with a slight pearl finish
  • High Saturated Lip Color in Glinda-soft rosey beige with gold and pink shimmer.  This is extremely similar to their Naked color

Ok, so let's talk about these eye shadows, they all have pretty much a different feel, so I unfortunately can't say "oh they're all buttery and perfect with no fallout" which sucks, especially for UD, but the different feels don't change my love for this palette.  Tornado is an amazing color.  The best one in my opinion in the palette.  The deep pinkish purple color with the shimmer finish is just gorgeous, not to mention the buttery smooth feel of this one when it applies is just great.  Definitely one of the best shades. Aura is an great idea for a shade.  The pigmentation was decent, but it wasn't as buttery as most UD shades go.  When this gets taken care of, I imagine that this would be an unbeatable color. Magic is another of my favorites in this palette.  While a tiny tiny tiny bit chalky, the color and shimmer of this is just gorgeous.  I pair this with Tornado and I have my go to eye combo with this palette.

Illusion is another of my favorite ones in this palette.  I actually can use this one as a brow bone highlight when I use some of the darker colors in this palette.  The peachy shade with the gold undertones is just an amazing complementing color for almost any eye look and with it's smooth texture, it really lives up to UD's name. Oz is the other duo pan in this palette.  Both of these colors are gorgeous glitters, but have the absolute worst fallout that I have seen in any of the UD's shades.  These don't get used by me often, but when I do, I definitely do my foundation after I do my eyes.  The pigment on these are great, the fallout just gets to me. South reminds me of a mix between UD's Mushroom and UD's Pistol.  It's a really pretty dark frosted taupe that goes with just about anything.  Really pigmented and buttery and so easy to put on and blend.

Rockstar is a great eggplant colored eyeliner with a slight pearl finish. This is a great color to go with this palette, and a great color period.  It isn't as harsh as black is on the eyes so it really keeps it nice and soft, just like the theme of the palette.  Glinda is a gorgeous nude color, and like I said before is extremely similar to UD's Naked Lip Color.  This goes on so creamy and lasts quite awhile that I couldn't believe it.  It's not sticky, but slightly tacky if that makes any sense at all.  It has been a staple for my lips since I got it.

This set originally started at $49 US dollars, and I just checked, it is NOT available on UD's website anymore. :-(  This is a great palette either way and I really hope that you guys were able to get it before it was gone!

BHCosmetics Galaxy Chic Palette Review

How I came to find BHCosmetic's Galaxy Chic palette, and the brand itself, was through my Ipsy bag.  For those of you who don't know what Ipsy is, it is a monthly beauty subscription that, for $10 a month, you get 4-5 beauty samples(deluxe sized) or full sized items in a cute little makeup bag.  You can get the link in the "Where to Find Me" tab.  Enough of the shout out.  I got a sample of this palette in my Ipsy bag one month and just fell so much in love with it, that I had to get the full sized.

This space themed palette comes with 18 baked eye shadows in quite a range of colors. They are all shimmery and just plain gorgeous.  Baked eye shadows are usually shimmery, glittery colors that are softer shadows that have the ability to be used wet.  They also typically have veins of one or more colors running through them, making them really fit the space theme that this palette has got going on.  They all have some pretty heavy fallout, so I would definitely do my eyes before foundation.

Sun is a warm gold shimmer with red veining that comes out to be a very warm light orange gold.  Saturn is a gold with pink veining that turns out to be a pretty warm pinkish gold shimmer. Mercury is a reddish brown with white veining that turns out to be a really pretty light shimmery brown.  All of these are great lid colors.  Very pretty, shimmery and smooth.

Jupiter is a medium reddish pink shimmer that has no veining.  Venus is a bright orange that is true to color and has no veining. Mars is another vein-less color that is a really pretty coppery red shimmer.  These are also really good lid colors.  Yet again, very pretty shimmery and smooth.

Prometheus is an icy white with dark red veining that turns out to be a frosted reddish icy white. Meteor is an icy white with light blue veining that comes out to a gorgeous frosted icy white with a bluish undertone. Asteroid breaks the trio cycle, so instead of an icy white with some veining, this is a mix of brown and blue that comes out to be a pretty taupe with blue undertones.  Prometheus and Meteor are great colors for inner corner highlights, while Asteroid is a great crease color.

Aphrodite(the color I got in my bag) is a gorgeous deep red with pink shimmer.  This shade has no veining. Comet is an aqua shimmer that has no veining.  Uranus is an icy blue shimmer that yet again, has no veining.

Milky Way is an icy white that has light pink veining.  This color swatches to a really pretty icy pink shimmer. Earth has a lot going on with icy white, blue and light blue veining that comes out to be a sky blue shimmer color.  Moon is quite a unique color with a whiteish blue base with reddish brown veining.  This color comes out to be a purplish taupe shimmer that is just a unique color all around.

Cosmic is a gorgeous lilac shimmer.  Neptune is a dark blue shimmer.  Eclipse is a deep eggplant shimmer.

For fear of sounding redundant, I couldn't really elaborate more than I did.  All of these colors are just so soft, pigmented, and gorgeous.  There are some great lid, crease and highlight colors in this palette.  This was the first non-neutral palette that I have ever bought and I honestly could not be more happier.  I was happy with the price($13 at BHCostmetics) and could not be any happier with the product.  Definitely a palette to add to your collection!

That'sHeart Palette Review

I was super excited to see this in my mailbox earlier this week, it was like Christmas all over again.  I had been eyeing this for quite awhile, and the hubby finally agreed to me ordering it! :-)  BHCosmetics That'sHeart palette contains 8 eye shadows, a bronzer, a blush and a highlighter in one small, sleek palette.  5 of the eyeshadows are neutral colors, then you have a baby pink, a deep blue, and a teal.  The bronzer seems to be a great universal color and great to contour with.  The highlighter is a good mix of pink and gold with a great shimmer.  It is not glittery like most drugstore highlighters. Now, lets get nitty gritty with it.

Let's start with the first row of eye shadows. The only, literally only, thing I DO NOT like about this palette is that there are no names of color! :-( The very first color is a shimmery, white taupe with micro glitter. This is a good brow highlight for a shimmery touch in a simple eye look. The next is a soft, satin baby pink.  This is a really pretty color, great for the lid. The next one is a deeper purple with a satin finish.  I used this one today and it went on just amazingly smooth.  The last is a shimmery teal color that is great for an accent color.  I have only swatched this color so I am not sure how the color will turn out on the eye but I am excited to find out.
(teal, purple, pink, white taupe)
The second row of eye shadows are all neutral colors.  The first one is a beige shimmer with a touch of micro-glitter.  This one comes off really light, if you are a deeper skin tone, you might be able to pull this one off as a highlighter.  I can't, I'm ghost white lol The next I can only describe as a milk chocolate satin color.  It is absolutely a gorgeous lid color, and smooth...oh goodness, so smooth, and minimal fallout.  All the colors in the palette are this way, it is just amazing.  The next is a reddish, coppery, shimmery color that is just amazing in the crease.  The last eye shadow is a dark brown color that's not matte, but not full on satin or shimmer either.  It's got a very little shimmer to it.  This is a great color for defining the crease.
(darkest brown, copper, medium brown, beige)
The last row of products is a spilt pan of bronzer and highlighter, and a full pan of blush.  The bronzer is a warm brown that is a touch shimmery, but when swatched, and put on the cheeks, is not shimmery at all.  This is a great contour color for me.  The highlighter next to it is a white goldish pinkish color.  It has a great blend of both golds and pinks, so this should work great with yellow and pink undertones.  It is not glittery, but rather the perfect shimmer that you want in a face highlight.  The blush in pan looks like a highly pigmented bright pink blush, but when swatched and put on the face, it comes out to be a more muted, softer, natural looking blush for the perfect flush of color.
(blush, highlight, bronzer)
All in all, I think this is a great palette for anyone to own, especially great for new makeup users as well.  The price point was to die for($14.95 at bhcosmetics.com).  YouTube beauty guru That'sHeart and BHCosmetics did a great job with this one!

Tutorial Tuesday-Jan 14, 2014 BH Cosmetics That'sHeart Palette

So, I want to apologize in advance for the crappy quality of the pictures today.  I'm in a new area of the house so I am trying to figure out the best place for the pictures.  They're blurry and out of focus and honestly look like crap but I needed to do something for you guys!

Anyways, on to the palette!  I got this palette yesterday in the mail and I couldn't be more excited!  I have been waiting for what seems like forever for this palette.  I have loved it so far.  The look that I have done today was inspired by the tutorial that That'sHeart did herself on the palette.  A couple color changes and this is what I got!  So, if you want to see how I got this look, then keep on reading!

Here is all the products that I used today-

First, prime your face, do your foundation and everything else you do.  I used the bronzer, hi-lighter, and the blush from the That'sHeart palette, the Naked2 palette from the Naked Basics palette to do my eyebrows, and set them with Maybelline's Great Lash Clear Brow Gel.  I also moisturized my lips with EOS Summer Fruit Lip Balm.
First, prime your eyes.  I used Benefit's Stay Don't Stray Primer. Then, I took a flat shader brush(the double-ended brush from the Naked2 palette)and dip it in the medium goldish brown color(second row, second color really wish these had names) and pat it on the moving part of your lid.
Next, take a blending brush(I used the other side of my Naked2 brush) and the slightly deeper brown color(second row, third color) and, with a windshield wiper motion pack this into your crease, making it a nice, deep, blended color. I am definitely loving this color. The picture sucks though I am sorry.
Next, take the deepest brown color(second row, fourth color) and the flat shader brush and place it in your outer v, only going about halfway in, or a little less than that.  Blend this out so there are no harsh lines. Next, with a small angled eyeliner brush(I used a Bare Minerals one), and the deep purple color(first row, third color), place this on your bottom lash line and smudge it out a bit.
Next, take the hi-light color(duo pan with the bronzer, the white, goldish pink color) and highlight your brow bone, blending out the crease just a little bit more.

Add some mascara(CoverGirl Bombshell mascara here) and you're done!(another blurry one sorry)
Now it is time for lips.  You can pick any color you think would go best with this.  I chose to go with my favorite combo at the moment-NYX Dolly Pink Lip Liner and Revlon Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake.  Really pretty pinky color. This completes your look!
